Our accommodation was in Varanasi Hotel Clarks Varanasi , who became, of all hotels in India we had the worst. Not that it was a bad hotel, but simply had no taste and orientality offered us earlier.
The hotel could be the equivalent of two Spanish stars. A hotel in pretty bad shape, with a small hall and a permanent acrid smell (I guess that comes from the smell that is in the city). The rooms are not too good, in fact, lacked many details.
The Clarks Varanasi is located about 20 kms from the airport and the hotel chain owned by Clarks, the oldest of all Indian hotel chains. It is located in a building half a century old, in the old part of town, but quite isolated from the gloomy atmosphere of Varanasi.
The hotel offers many amenities including a garden and an outdoor pool. Observes the colonial air and has a restaurant that is not too bad. The buffet, however, even had the basics, did not offer the variety of hotels in Delhi, Jaipur and Agra.
The double room costs, at 2008 prices, 5500 Indian rupees that change come to be about 85 € per night.
