Bara Imambara is perhaps the most famous of them all. It was built by Asaf-ud-Daulah in 1784. Imambara is the name for the residence of the "imam" and the name received by a worship area specially designed to recollection and meditation during the month of Muharram, the holy month.
Rumi Darwaza, or Turkish Gate, is another must-see views of Lucknow. Located just west of Bara Imambara, and is a monumental gateway built by the same builder, between 1784 and 1786. With over 18 meters high, and the most beautiful scenes in his bow, is undoubtedly the most precious picture of every trip to this city.
