The Palace of Winds or, Hawa Mahal, his name in Hindi, is one of the principal monuments of Jaipur , the so-called Rose City. It is a palace built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh and his peculiar way answered the shape of the crown of Krishna.
The architecture of this building is above all striking, but some history may give us an idea of why they are intricate appearance. Originally, it was designed in such a way as to allow the ladies of the harem look out onto the streets of the city, where he wore everyday.
With 953 windows of small proportions, the facade that faces the street is the reason for the name of this palace. For these openings round shape, the wind flows with strength, allowing summer indoor temperatures remain pleasant.
The Mughal architecture is the Palace of the Winds at one of its more finished. One of the features of this style that we see in the Hawa Mahal is the present poly-lobed arches in doors and windows.
We also recognize the indigenous materials that were used for construction. The building was built with stone bricks sandstone, with characteristic red and pink colors that identify the city. The facade was decorated with marble white.
The palace has five floors in total, although there are no stairs inside. Each plant is accessible through several meters of ramps. The top two floors of the palace were built in such ways that seem to draw the tail of a peacock. This symbolism refers to one of the most precious animals in India.
