This extraordinary museum in Chandigarh is one of the most important of India, with its rich collection of sculptures, among which stand out those of Gandhara, Rajasthani and Pahari miniature paintings. The museum was created in 1947 and trained with some of the collections of the Central Museum of Lahore, the ancient capital of Punjab.

The Museum is unique not only for its collections of objects, also because it was designed by Le Corbusier, who imagined the same city Chandigarh , and has beautiful views of the Shivalik mountains and a sprawling campus in which a school is surrounded of beautiful trees, the park is also home to several contemporary sculptures.

The building of the Museum has four wings of which the largest and most impressive is the Art Gallery. Another wing is occupied by the Museum of Natural History, Museum of Architecture which includes documents related to the construction of the city, and the National Portrait Gallery.

The Chandigarh Architecture Museum: Here you can see the original documents relating to planning and development of the city, rare drawings, sketches and photographs by the master planner of the city. Those who want to know more can get a nice manual in the museum.

Natural History Museum: It was created in 2001 based on old museum of the evolution of human life. Featuring a contemporary view on the role of museums, is organized around five themes: Cyclorama of Evolution of Life, Nature and art, manuscripts, human evolution and one that will delight the youngest and probably of the great also: Dinosaurs of India.

Before we continue let's take a paragraph to the building, was designed by Le Corbusier as an extension of the philosophy that gave rise to the city. It is designed as a dynamic and constantly expanding, through architectural harmony inside, the use of color and structure of spaces that flow into each other, enabling uninterrupted long walks to encourage reflection and contemplation. The building is unique in its concept of art galleries and architectural monument.

The Museum is located in Sector 10-C and is very easy to get to the Sector 17 bus, auto rickshaw or local bus down in the Rose Garden. It is located 2.5 km from the bus station, 9 km from the railway station and 12 km from the airport. An alternative for visitors is the tourist bus.
