Chandigarh is a city that serves as capital of two states: Punjab and Haryana. However, it is administered directly by the federal government as a territory of Chandigarh , an area of 114 km2 which covers three areas: Manimajra , Burail and Attawa and twenty-seven populations.
The city of Chandigarh is very special. For starters, its designer was the famous Le Corbusier, and is now the city that hosts more works of this architect. It is considered the largest and most daring experiment of modern urbanism has become a Mecca for architects from around the world. Its classification as "International City" is based on the popularity of Le Corbusier, convened to develop the city's master plan in 1951, based on their conceptions of urban planning.
Thus, the city is divided into several sectors numbered from 1 to 60 except 13, which Le Corbusier was omitted because of superstition. Each of these areas, approximately 1.5 km of hand, operates like a small city with its own market, school, or temple, so that no one should walk more than 10 minutes to get one of these places. District 17 is considered the center of the city.
Its population has a high literacy level, the city is home to major educational institutions and also characterized by the quality of their environment than other cities in the world, polluting industries are not allowed.
Its architecture is the hallmark of the city, called "Architecture of Chandigarh." This style, represented mainly in the Capitol Complex, consists of brick walls, the use of "brise-soleil, a blind screen that replaces the traditional galleries to control sunlight from walls and windows and finishes perfect for construction.
From the planning point of view, there is here narrow streets, all allow the passage of modern and large buses. The buildings are close together and many houses have been built in a single continuous row, in a style called "terraced houses."
There is much to admire the architecture of Chandigarh, as the Capitol Complex , home of the governments of Punjab and Haryana , considered the temple of democracy in India covering the Secretariat, Legislative Assembly and the Palace of Justice, the Capitol Plaza with monumental structures, the campus of the University or the School of Architecture , whose mission is to preserve and extend the boundaries of creativity to make cities efficient and comprehensive service of the human family. |
