Bihar is a state in eastern India, with Patna, the capital, bordered on the north by Nepal and its territory is a fertile plain crossed by the Ganges. Just on the border with Nepal is Munger, a district surrounded by the river Ganges and guarded by the Kharagpur hills to the east.
It is a place of stunning natural beauty and rich history, in fact, we are in the famous Monghyr mentioned in the Mahabharata and the capital of the mythical kingdom of Anga.
Munger was visited by travelers of all time, as Hiuen Tsiang who was here in the mid-seventh century AD and was amazed by his wealth, crops and flowers, pleasant climate and simple people. It is also an important religious center, there are ten Buddhist monasteries inhabited by about four thousand Brahman priests and several temples.
According to legend, in ancient times Hiranya mountain was a volcano which steam and smoke obscured the sun and moon, the current hot springs indicate that these eruptions may exist. During the nineteenth century Munger was famous for its beneficial properties of air and climate, and doctors prescribed a trip to London by the Ganges and a stay at Munger to improve health, equivalent to a sea voyage!
Currently Munger is one of the brightest stars in the constellation of religious tours in India. For example, we visit the Temple of Chandika Astahan , just 2 km from the city, considered one of the most sacred because it is the Lord Shiva danced the Tandav Mudra to find the corpse of Sati, according to legend, Vishnu divided it in 24 pieces, one of which, the left eye, fell in Munger, so it is visited by many people with vision problems.
One of the most visited sites is Sita Kund , a unique place that arouses great curiosity among visitors. It is 4 km from Munger and houses the spa town of Sita Kund, water wonderfully clear and transparent bubbles which emerge from the bedrock.
Do not let Munger without visiting the grave of poet Mulla Mohammad Saiyed, who wrote under the pseudonym of Ashraf, who lived in the eighteenth century and died here while on his way from Bengal to Mecca.
It is very easy to get to Munger Road from Bhagalpur, Begusarai and Patna or train from Patna, if they arrive by plane, the nearest airport is to Patna , connected by regular flights to all major cities.
