Located in the northern state of Maharashtra in the western territory of India, Aurangabad is an ancient city, home to many monuments of the middle Ages. It was built on the banks of Kham River, and is located about 400 kilometers from Bombay.
Surrounded by hills, and guardian of heritage and historical cultural invaluable, Aurangabad was originally a city of the Mughal empire. From this period date most stunning buildings, with its magnificent architecture were a way to show the world the greatness of the kingdom. The twelve Buddhist caves known as the Caves of Aurangabad , were excavated in the hills. Dating from the early years after Christ, and underlines the strong influence them tantric present in the iconography and architecture. In many of the caves, a Buddha carved takes his throne.
From the entrance of these temples, you can get beautiful views of the Bibi-Ka Maqbara , the tomb built by Aurangzeb in memory of his wife. This magnificent mausoleum reminiscent in part to the great Taj Mahal, and is also surrounded by a garden.
The Himroo factory, meanwhile, is now one of the sites that more accurately reflects the past of Aurangabad. The fabric known as Himroo, cotton and silk blend is high quality and for years its production was the key economic activity in the city followed patterns when spun fabrics are inspired by the frescoes of the Ajanta caves.
